FORD PUMP TAG DECODER |
1965 - 1972 Ford/Thompson Pump ID Tag Decoder |
The Ford/Thompson (TRW) pump was identified by a metal tag mounted under the nut
that sealed the pressure outlet fitting to the reservoir canister. This tag also
served as a washer under the nut to spread out the force it put on the reservoir
when tightened down. The metal reservoir is very thin metal and the opening
for the pressure outlet can easily be torn or distorted by the nut if the tag
is removed. Always reinstall the ID tag when reassembling a Ford pump or place
a washer under the nut to prevent damage to the reservoir and a potential leak. |
The first line on the tag is the Pump ID Code which will breakdown the year, model,
engine and design of the pump. Other lines and codes refer to the Builder and
other manufacture information. Many of the internal parts of the Ford pump are the same throughout the years and were only changed as upgrades and production changes were implemented. Often the main difference is in the the design of the reservoir itself and the pieces inside that are required to fit that reservoir. |
Ford basic part number for power steering pumps is -3A674- |
